EYN#060: Cope With Pressure - Recover

 It's been a great year, it's been a tiring year and now it's time to recover.

I've put a lot of people under pressure this year. In a good way, in a supportive way, in a "they asked me to" way, with The Technical Storytelling workshop.

I've helped people with short term strategies that help them cope with that pressure. You know, when they need to present in that super important meeting. But I tell everyone that the real change is the in the long game.

 

Mental fitness is a term I first heard from Alison Sinclair on EP10 of the Tech World Human Skills Podcast.

Working out helps your physical fitness, so that your body is fitter and can perform better. Building your mental fitness strengthens your mind and helps you cope when you're under pressure.

 

To build your mental fitness I talk about ODERM:

  • Optimism
  • Diet
  • Exercise
  • Recovery
  • Meditation

 

So, now it's time to practice what I preach and do some recovery.

Here I am signing off on December 20th to celebrate Christmas and won't be back until the new year.
